Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has drawn attention to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s long-running quest for Nigeria’s presidency, describing his latest bid as his seventh attempt.
Fani-Kayode recalled Atiku’s previous presidential contests, beginning with the 1993 Social Democratic Party (SDP) primaries, where he lost to MKO Abiola. He also cited Atiku’s 2007 presidential run under the Action Congress, his unsuccessful PDP primary bid in 2011, his loss to Muhammadu Buhari at the APC primaries in 2015, and his defeats in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections.
According to Fani-Kayode, Atiku has spent more than three decades pursuing the presidency while moving through several political parties.
He further compared Atiku’s repeated presidential bids with other politicians around the world who have contested for their countries’ highest office multiple times
He concluded by describing Atiku as a “political wanderer,” citing his movement across different political parties since entering national politics
